Dairy farms explode into the Panhandle

GeoClift2alanrhodes_web George Clift and Alan Rhodes have been working with the growing number of dairymen who have been re-locating to the Panhandle either to expand their dairy operations or simply to start anew.

Clift comes from an agricultural back ground and, these days, he’s helping users of agricultural land buy and sell Texas Panhandle property.

Rhodes is an attorney with the Underwood Law Firm in Amarillo and he, too, focuses much of his practice in the agricultural arena.

The surge in the number of dairy farms in the Panhandle is somewhat of a phenomena, and it’s interesting to hear what George and Alan have to say about the trend.

"Whiskey's for drinkin' and water's for fightin' "quotes Dan Hatfield

Dan_stream Dan Hatfield returns to Texas Rural Land News & Review to chat about water issues facing Texans, not only in the future, but today as well.

Texans use over 17 million acre feet of water each year, according to Dan, and he points out the looming fight between urban dwellers and rural folk over water is going to be a doozy.

He notes that the rapidly growing population coupled with the healthy Texas economy is a double-edged sword …and cautions that rural landowners had best tuck their fiercely independent pride into their hip pocket and join together to protect what water they have.

Distribution is the key to a successful water policy for the state and the issues are already a political hot potato.
